Plumgarths was created by three local chaps: John Geldard, Steve Chambers and Paul Airey. As well as being the business Directors, at heart they are a farmer, a meat salesman and a butcher, and between them they know farming and food and how well the two go together if they are done properly by people who care.
In 2003 Plumgarths received a visit from Prince Charles, who was particularly interested in our work with ASDA. He enjoyed a tipple of Damson Gin and was enthused by the way we have connected the big nationals with local producers and growers.
Plumgarths is still a one stop shop for all of the local products ASDA wants on its shelves and the initiative now involves 80 products from 30 farmers and producers on our doorstep.
The Farm Shop celebrated its 10th birthday in 2011 and we feel really proud that we have been faithful to our early principles: strengthening the local economy by reconnecting the food chain, reducing food miles, and creating sustainable jobs.
Between the Farm Shop and the Food Service sides of the business there’s certainly enough to keep us all busy, but we’re always thinking about what comes next.
